Twilight view of the resort town of Marbella after sunset, with views to Gibraltar (center) and Morocco (left) across the Mediterranean and the Straits of Gibraltar.
The straits are spanned by the mythical Pillars of Hercules, in reference to the legendary Greek hero. The myth states that Hercules smashed through the mount Atlas to create the straits; the pillar on the European coastline being the Rock of Gibraltar, while the opposite pillar would be Jebel Musa (Morocco).
