TECHNICAL SPECS OF IMAGES, PRINTS, AND FRAMED PRINTS

OVERVIEW

We use Giclée printing on age-resistant museum-quality 200g fine art matte paper.

The photograph is framed by a printed white border of approximately 10-20% on each side (subject to each photograph's proportions), creating a virtual mat around the image area.

The digital photographs have mostly been captured on professional Canon cameras or on Iphones.  The analog photographs have mostly been captured on 6X7cm or 35mm slide film, scanned and carefully restored to eliminate any dust and scratches.

IMAGE QUALITY

The famous photographer Chase Jarvis once said; “the best camera is the one that's with you.”

These images represent the captured moment with the best tool I had at hand at that instant. Many were taken with professional digital camera systems, but many others were captured on an Iphone or small digital cameras. The legacy images were mostly captured on 6X7cm or 35mm slide film and scanned.

We carefully process and interpolate each file to insure the best possible image quality for the sizes we offer. Obviously if one inspects the largest sized prints made from smaller original files, they will not be as razor sharp from close up... however they will look fine from a standard viewing distance!

This said, if you are looking for resolution over emotion, please insure you choose images shot with my Canon DSLR cameras (12-50 MP) instead of my Iphone images (12 MP). Scanned Film images generally are comparable to DSLR images, but with some film grain.

You can use the drop-down Catalog menu to filter by “All Canon Captures”, “All Iphone Captures”, or "All Film Captures". You can also find this information in each photograph’s written description.

PRINTS

Proportions and Sizes

All our prints are designed to a 3/4 proportion (except for occasional panoramic or square photographs). Each photograph is printed inside a white border area as described above; this standardised layout works with all our different image proportions.

Please note the largest size prints of 28X40 inches (70X100 cms.) will slightly crop the white mat area, by an inch on the long sides of the print. This is currently unavoidable and has been taken into account in the design so that it remains aesthetically pleasing.

Printing Specifications:

The word “Giclée” is French for “sprayed ink.” Today, the term is used to describe a sophisticated inkjet printmaking process which creates the highest quality fine art reproductions. Giclée printing offers extra-fine image resolution, helping retain a higher degree of detail from the original photographic images.

Paper Specifications:

A premium museum-quality paper with a smooth, clean finish. This heavyweight (200gsm) fine art print material reproduces photography with exceptional tonality and renders sharp details with consistent flatness and accuracy. The uncoated matte finish emphasises different highlights and tones helping to create stunning reproduction.

Archival Specifications:

A lot of research and development has gone into the various aspects and materials that make up a Giclée print. The archival nature of the print varies according to the type of inks used, as well as the archival properties of the paper and the conditions in which the print is displayed or stored.

Current scientific lab reports suggested that our paper and Giclée printing process will produce a print that lasts between 100-200 years in optimal conditions.

Please note any print located in direct sunlight is still likely to fade over time.

FRAMED PRINTS

We are happy to offer you the option of wooden frames for our prints, made by the same company that supplies the Tate Modern Museum, British Library and the Natural History Museum.

Created from high quality wood, milled with simple clean lines and presented with a stain finish, the frame has a square, modern profile that works well in both contemporary and traditional environments.

Each frame is individually handmade by specialist picture framers and is available in three different colours; black, white and natural.

Acrylic Plexiglass is used which provides increased UV protection, is extremely robust and offers less glare than float glass.

All frames are delivered ready for hanging directly on your walls.

      • Simple, elegant design
      • Size: 20mm (front face) x 23mm (depth from wall)
